About this item

A Rare Opportunity to Restore a Piece of European Yachting History

Offered for sale is NOORDWYK, a genuine 1961 Akerboom Sedan Cruiser, constructed by the renowned Akerboom Shipyard, Lisse, Holland—a yard synonymous with exceptional Dutch craftsmanship and traditional motor yachts.

Registered in the Register of Yachts (1971) under the name NOORDWYK, this vessel represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an authentic classic with documented provenance. During her early years she cruised the waters of Lake Windermere, where the accompanying period photograph captures her in her prime at Bowness, displaying the elegant lines and timeless styling that made these Dutch cruisers so admired.

Today she awaits a new custodian prepared to return her to the water.

The Opportunity

NOORDWYK is being sold strictly as a restoration project.

The hull presents an excellent foundation for someone wishing to preserve an increasingly scarce example of post-war Dutch yacht building. While the vessel requires comprehensive restoration, she retains a significant quantity of her original character and numerous original components.

Included in the sale are many valuable original parts removed during the restoration process, offering an excellent starting point for an authentic rebuild.

Matching Rebuilt Parsons Barracuda Engines Included

Perhaps the greatest attraction of this project is the inclusion of a matching pair of Parsons Barracuda diesel engines.

These engines have been:

* Fully rebuilt * Professionally restored * Extensively documented throughout the rebuild * Preserved ready for installation

Finding an original matching pair of correctly rebuilt Barracudas is exceptionally uncommon and removes one of the largest obstacles faced when restoring a classic yacht of this period.

Their value alone represents a significant proportion of the asking price and provides the next owner with confidence that the mechanical heart of the vessel has already been addressed.

A Restoration Worth Undertaking

Classic Dutch motor yachts continue to enjoy strong enthusiast support across Europe, with restored examples commanding admiration wherever they cruise.

NOORDWYK deserves to be returned to the water rather than quietly disappearing into history.

Whether your ambition is to own a distinguished inland cruiser, attend classic boat rallies, or simply preserve an increasingly rare example of Dutch craftsmanship, this project offers an exceptional foundation.

With patience, investment and sympathetic restoration, NOORDWYK has every opportunity to become the elegant gentleman’s cruiser she once was.

Viewing

Viewing is strongly recommended.

This is not simply another restoration project—it is the opportunity to become the next custodian of a documented classic whose story stretches back over sixty years.

Serious enquiries are invited from classic boat enthusiasts, restorers and collectors who appreciate the rarity and heritage of this remarkable Dutch motor yacht.

Feadship Heritage Potential

Following a sympathetic restoration to an appropriate standard, NOORDWYK would be eligible for inclusion within the Feadship Heritage Fleet, recognising her origins as a 1961 Akerboom-built Dutch motor yacht. For enthusiasts of classic Dutch yachts, this represents the opportunity to restore not just a beautiful vessel, but an important part of European yachting history.

Dealer provenance note

NOORDWYK came into my possession several years ago as a restoration project. My intention was always to return her to the water, and over that time I accumulated many original parts and sourced a matching pair of Parsons Barracuda diesel engines, both of which have since been professionally rebuilt and documented. Unfortunately, business and other commitments have meant I have never had the time to complete the restoration. Rather than see this rare yacht remain ashore, I have decided it is time for her to pass to someone who can continue the project and preserve an increasingly scarce example of Dutch yacht building.
